Cinacalcet (brand names: Sensipar, Mimpara) is the active ingredient in this medication.It belongs to a class of drugs called calcimimetics.
Treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid glands) in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis.
Treatment of hyperparathyroidism in patients with parathyroid carcinoma.
Setz 30mg Tablet (Cinacalcet) works by mimicking the action of calcium on the parathyroid gland. It increases the sensitivity of the parathyroid gland to calcium, leading to a decrease in the production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). This helps to lower calcium levels in the blood.
Store cinacalcet at room temperature, between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Protect from light and moisture.
The dose of cinacalcet is determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.
It is usually taken by mouth, with or without food, once or twice a day.
Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets. Swallow them whole with water.
Serious side effects are less common but can include hypocalcemia (low calcium levels), allergic reactions, and heart problems.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, muscle cramps, headache, and dizziness.
Avoid alcohol while taking cinacalcet, as it can increase the risk of side effects.
Cinacalcet can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Cinacalcet should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using cinacalcet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Cinacalcet is not approved for use in children.
Cinacalcet is primarily excreted by the kidneys. If you have kidney problems, you may need a lower dose of cinacalcet.
Cinacalcet is not metabolized by the liver. However, if you have liver problems, you may need a lower dose of cinacalcet.
