A cephalosporin antibiotic.
Treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as skin and skin structure infections (e.g., cellulitis, impetigo), respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis), urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis, pyelonephritis), and bone and joint infections.
Prophylaxis (prevention) of bacterial endocarditis before certain dental procedures in patients at risk.
Phexin Bd 375mg Tab (Cephalexin) inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It achieves this by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), preventing the formation of peptidoglycan, a crucial component of the bacterial cell wall.
Store at room temperature (20-25°C). Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage varies depending on the infection being treated, the patient's age and weight, and the severity of the infection. Always follow your doctor's prescription instructions.
Oral administration: Cephalexin is typically taken orally, with or without food. Take the medication at evenly spaced intervals as directed by your healthcare professional.
Complete the full course of antibiotics, even if you feel better before the end of the prescribed duration.
Do not crush or chew extended-release tablets.
Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue (angioedema). Seek immediate medical attention if this occurs.
Pseudomembranous colitis (rare but serious): This is an inflammation of the colon.
Yeast infections: Oral or vaginal yeast infections may occur.
Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Elevated liver enzymes (rare).
Changes in blood cell counts (rare).
Alcohol consumption may interact with cephalexin; consult your doctor.
Cephalexin generally does not affect alertness, but if you experience side effects like dizziness, avoid driving or operating machinery.
