This combination medication works by acting on different parts of your cardiovascular system. Chlorthalidone increases urine output, reducing blood volume. Metoprolol decreases heart rate and contractility. Telmisartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels. The combined effect is a significant reduction in blood pressure.

Take the medication as prescribed, usually once daily with or without food.
